When Apple unveiled the iPhone 15 lineup in September 2023, the company’s color choices for the new phones elicited mixed reactions from consumers. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus were available in five colors: black, blue, green, yellow, and pink. For the 2024 iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, Apple is continuing the trend of offering five color options, but with a new twist: white, black, pink, teal, and ultramarine.
Although the color selections may seem similar, the shades in the 2023 lineup were notably subdued. For instance, the blue variant of the iPhone 15 was so pale it almost appeared white, and the green variant was barely perceptible as green. While some users appreciated the understated and minimalist approach, others found the colors too muted and dull.
With the launch of the iPhone 16, Apple appears to have shifted away from the muted colors of the previous models. The new iPhone 16 lineup not only boasts updated design features but also introduces a more vibrant color palette, addressing feedback from consumers who found the earlier shades less engaging.
The colors of the iPhone 16 are notably bolder compared to last year’s shades
For 2024, Apple is offering the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus in a range of vibrant colors: Pink, Ultramarine, Teal, White, and Black. If you appreciated the more subdued hues of the iPhone 15, you might find it challenging to adjust to the new, richer colors of the iPhone 16 lineup. Aside from the black option, which remains unchanged from last year, the new colors are darker, more vibrant, and have a more pronounced depth compared to the previous year’s palette. Additionally, the new models feature darker accents around the camera module, enhancing its visual prominence.
While Apple has kept the pink color name, the shade itself is significantly different from the one on the iPhone 15, appearing much bolder and deeper. The white option meets expectations, while the Teal and Ultramarine colors are richer, more jewel-like tones.
All five color variants of the iPhone 16 will be available for pre-order starting September 13, 2024, with sales beginning on September 20. In the U.S., the iPhone 16 starts at $799, and the base model of the iPhone 16 Plus begins at $899.
