Teradek CTRL.5 Firmware 2.2 Expands Sony and RED Camera Control

Teradek has just released firmware version 2.2 for its Teradek CTRL.5 wireless lens control system, expanding camera integration while reinforcing the hardware’s role as a high reliability control hub for professional film and broadcast productions.

One of the headline additions in version 2.2 is Sony camera control. With a separately available license, users can connect compatible Sony cinema and mirrorless cameras over Wi-Fi and adjust essential exposure parameters directly from the CTRL.5 Camera Page.

ISO, shutter speed, frame rate, and other core settings can now be modified remotely without accessing the camera body.

For gimbal builds, Steadicam rigs, cranes, car mounts, or remote head configurations, this level of control reduces physical intervention and speeds up resets between takes.

First ACs and operators can maintain focus and exposure workflows within a single ecosystem, minimizing disruptions on fast moving sets.

Firmware 2.2 also enables full camera menu navigation for RED and Sony systems via the manufacturers’ web interfaces inside the CTRL.5 interface.

This extends control beyond surface exposure adjustments and into deeper configuration layers such as recording formats, project settings, and system parameters.

For DITs and video engineers managing multiple camera bodies, centralized access to menus from a wireless controller simplifies configuration and reduces downtime.

On episodic television, commercial sets, and live productions, consolidating menu navigation into the FIZ controller tightens communication between camera and technical departments.

Furthermore, Lens Maps are now searchable by name, manufacturer, and focal length.

On productions running multiple prime sets or alternating between spherical and anamorphic lenses, rapid access to accurate mapping profiles is critical for focus accuracy and consistent metadata capture.

For rental houses and prep technicians, this reduces setup friction and helps ensure lens data integrity across multiple camera builds.

Beyond firmware improvements, the CTRL.5 hardware remains a key differentiator in Teradek’s ecosystem:

  • 5-inch daylight viewable touchscreen display
  • Integrated wireless FIZ control for focus, iris, and zoom
  • Long range wireless operation designed for professional production environments
  • Multi-channel operation for complex multi camera or multi operator setups
  • Swappable battery system compatible with standard production power solutions
  • Compact, lightweight form factor suitable for handheld, gimbal, or cart based builds
  • Robust aluminum construction engineered for demanding set conditions

The system is designed to integrate with Teradek’s broader wireless video and camera control infrastructure, enabling cohesive monitoring and control pipelines across departments.

When paired with Teradek wireless video transmitters and receivers, CTRL.5 becomes part of a scalable remote operation platform suitable for high end narrative, commercial, and broadcast work.

Firmware 2.2 does not reinvent the CTRL.5. Instead, it strengthens its position as a centralized control node.

Sony Wi-Fi control, deeper RED and Sony menu access, and improved Lens Map search directly target the pain points experienced by ACs, DITs, and operators working under tight production schedules.

For professional filmmakers and content creators building modular camera systems, this update enhances speed, reliability, and precision without requiring additional hardware investment.

In an industry increasingly defined by remote operation, metadata driven post workflows, and wireless integration, firmware 2.2 represents a practical and technically meaningful step forward.
