In a recent interview with FOX Business Network’s The Evening Edit, former President Donald Trump discussed his concerns about artificial intelligence (AI) after he shared a series of manipulated images on his Truth Social account. These images falsely depicted pop star Taylor Swift endorsing his 2024 presidential campaign, causing a stir on social media.
“I didn’t create those images,” Trump clarified during his conversation with correspondent Grady Trimble. “Someone else put them out there. They were completely fabricated. AI can be very dangerous in that sense.” His comments reflect growing apprehension about the misuse of technology in spreading misinformation.
Trump went on to elaborate on the broader implications of AI. “It’s not just about these doctored images,” he said. “There’s also AI being used to make it seem like I’m speaking on topics or endorsing things I’ve never actually said or supported. It’s a real issue and poses significant risks.”
Last week, Trump shared images that falsely suggested Taylor Swift was supporting his campaign. One image featured fans in “Swifties for Trump” T-shirts, accompanied by a headline about a thwarted terror plot against Swift’s concerts. Another image, resembling a famous U.S. Army recruiting poster, showed Swift in a patriotic outfit with a message urging people to vote for Trump.
Trump’s caption for these images was simply “I accept!” which seemed to endorse the fabricated content. The doctored images stirred controversy, as they misrepresented Swift’s stance on the upcoming election.
As of now, Taylor Swift has not publicly endorsed any candidate for the 2024 presidential race. She previously supported President Joe Biden in 2020, but there has been no indication of her backing either Trump or Vice President Kamala Harris in this election cycle.
The incident underscores the potential dangers of AI and misinformation, highlighting the ease with which digital tools can be used to create misleading content. As technology continues to advance, the ability to discern real from fake becomes increasingly critical.
Trump’s comments bring attention to a growing concern about how AI can be exploited for political gain, raising questions about the need for stricter regulations and ethical guidelines surrounding its use.
