RØDE is tightening the gap between traditional camera audio and mobile production workflows with its latest firmware update.
The company has officially introduced Direct Connect support for the Wireless GO and Wireless PRO, enabling transmitters to connect directly to an iPhone or iPad via Bluetooth without requiring a receiver.
Direct Connect was previously available on RØDE’s Wireless Micro system, and this update extends the feature to its higher tier professional platforms.

Importantly, up to two transmitters can connect simultaneously, maintaining true dual channel flexibility even in a receiver free configuration.
The result is a lighter footprint without sacrificing professional control, particularly valuable for documentary crews, field journalists, corporate interview setups, and vertical content teams working with minimal rigs.

Importantly, this update does not reduce the professional feature set of either system. Both platforms retain:
- 32-bit float on board recording for maximum headroom and recovery in post
- Intelligent GainAssist technology for fast deployment
- Secure Series IV 2.4GHz digital transmission with encrypted signal integrity
- On board safety channel functionality
- Timecode capability on Wireless PRO for multi camera sync workflows
For filmmakers integrating mobile devices into multicam environments, Wireless PRO’s timecode support remains a major differentiator.
This allows iPhone based capture to align seamlessly with cinema cameras, making the system viable for professional documentary and branded productions rather than casual mobile content alone.
Direct Connect simply adds flexibility to the toolkit rather than replacing traditional receiver based workflows. Users can still deploy the full receiver when feeding dedicated cameras, recorders, or mixers.
Flexible Channel Management
Inside the Capture app, users can configure recording behavior to match post production needs.
You can merged mode records both transmitters into a combined stereo file for rapid publishing as well as split mode records each microphone independently for detailed dialogue editing.
Gain can also be adjusted directly within the app, allowing fast control during mobile capture sessions.
This flexibility is especially valuable for interview driven productions where isolating talent in post is essential.
These days increasingly relying on smartphones for behind the scenes capture, quick turn branded content, vertical deliverables, and even principal photography in certain documentary contexts becomes a mainstream trend.
With major improvements in mobile sensors and computational imaging, professional audio integration has become the limiting factor. This update addresses that bottleneck directly.
By expanding Direct Connect to its flagship systems, RØDE is aligning professional wireless audio with modern capture realities while preserving the reliability, redundancy, and audio integrity required in serious production environments.
Direct Connect can now be accessed through the RØDE Capture app after installing the latest free firmware update.
