Mail App Crashing After iOS 18.5 Update? You’re Not Alone
Apple users are reporting a new issue following the iOS 18.5 update — this time involving the built-in Mail app. Many users say the app either shows a blank screen, freezes, or crashes unexpectedly upon launch.
While iOS 18.5 was released last month, complaints have recently been surfacing on Apple Communities, Reddit, and other forums. Users describe opening the Mail app only to be met with an unresponsive screen or a complete crash, often after a brief white or black screen (depending on the phone’s theme settings).
Apple has yet to publicly acknowledge the issue or release a patch, but users are already trying various temporary fixes. Some report limited success with workarounds like force closing the app, restarting their iPhone, disabling keyboard autocorrect, or reinstalling the Mail app entirely. Unfortunately, none of these methods provide a lasting solution — the issue seems to return over time.

A frustrated user on Apple’s official forums wrote:
“My Mail app no longer works after the iOS 18.5 update. I uninstalled and reinstalled it — still crashes after a blank white screen. Was this intentional? I use my phone for business — this is crippling.”
Another user on Reddit added:
“Response time is laggy, app freezes, emails won’t open, and the inbox won’t refresh even though I’m getting new mail notifications. Restarting the phone helps — but only briefly.”
A third user shared:
“I have an iPhone 15. The Mail app’s been glitching since yesterday. It either goes black or starts acting up when I try to scroll through messages. Still no fix.”
Until Apple provides an official update or patch, affected users will have to rely on temporary solutions — or consider using third-party email apps in the meantime.
