New Turtle Beach Headset Uses Two Dongles to Solve a Very Common Problem

Turtle Beach is set to elevate its Stealth 700 gaming headset lineup with the introduction of the Gen 3 model, offering a long-awaited solution for gamers who own both an Xbox Series S and a PlayStation 5. This new iteration, launching on September 22nd, aims to simplify gaming across multiple platforms. Gamers can now pre-order the headset, which promises to provide seamless compatibility for both major consoles.

The Stealth 700 Gen 3 will be offered in versions tailored for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. The key distinction lies in compatibility: the Xbox version is versatile, working with Xbox, PlayStation, and PC, while the PlayStation and PC versions are limited to their respective platforms and do not support Xbox connectivity. Although it may seem a bit perplexing, this design allows for tailored functionality based on the platform. Additionally, each version comes in different color options—Black and Cobalt Blue for Xbox, Black and White for PlayStation, and Black for PC.

Each headset variant is equipped with two USB transmitters and a convenient button for switching between platforms with a single click. This feature addresses a common limitation in current gaming headsets, which typically don’t offer cross-platform compatibility. The Stealth 700 Gen 3 aims to eliminate the need for multiple headsets, providing a unified solution for gamers who play on different systems.

In contrast, Logitech’s Astro A50 X Lightspeed attempted to tackle this issue but requires a base station and has a steep price tag of $342. The $200 Stealth 700 Gen 3 presents a more affordable alternative with a simpler setup, thanks to its included CrossPlay dongles. This design does not necessitate having all consoles in the same location, adding to its convenience.

The headset features a dual connectivity system with low-latency 2.4GHz wireless and Bluetooth 5.2, ensuring stable and high-quality connections. Its 60mm drivers deliver immersive spatial audio, enhancing the gaming experience. The mic, which flips up to mute, benefits from AI-based noise reduction, reducing background noise and improving communication clarity.

Battery life has seen a significant upgrade from the Stealth 700 Gen 2 Max, extending from 40 hours to 80 hours on the Gen 3, with added quick charging capabilities. While Turtle Beach has previously impressed with the Stealth Pro headset, it remains to be seen if the Gen 3’s promised advanced compatibility will truly meet gamers’ expectations and deliver the convenience they seek.

Overall, the Stealth 700 Gen 3 represents Turtle Beach’s commitment to addressing the needs of gamers who switch between different consoles. By offering a versatile and cost-effective solution, it stands to provide a compelling option for those looking to streamline their gaming setup.
