Apple’s ‘Glowtime’ event kicks off on Monday, and there’s a lot riding on the iPhone 16

Highlights

  • Apple is set to showcase new devices at the upcoming ‘Glowtime’ event, featuring the highly anticipated iPhone 16.
  • The company’s focus on AI began with the introduction of Apple Intelligence at their June conference.

Apple is gearing up to announce a new lineup of devices at its “Glowtime” event on Monday, with the highly anticipated iPhone 16 expected to take center stage.

The spotlight has been on Apple since its June Worldwide Developers Conference, where it unveiled Apple Intelligence. As the AI arms race intensifies in the tech industry, much is riding on whether Apple’s new hardware will demonstrate that its AI investment is paying off. If successful, Apple could position itself as the gatekeeper of the consumer AI revolution, according to Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives.

The event will begin at 1 p.m. ET at Apple Park in California and will be live-streamed on Apple’s website. Apple is reportedly training its store employees on the new AI features in preparation for the launch. Last week, marketing executive Greg Joswiak teased the “Glowtime” event on X.

Analysts are anticipating that the launch could trigger a significant iPhone upgrade cycle, as Apple Intelligence will be fully available only on the iPhone 15 and newer models, including the expected iPhone 16. Emarketer tech analyst Gadjo Sevilla noted that the new iPhones are crucial because they are Apple’s most profitable products and essential to the company’s expanding ecosystem of services and subscriptions.

Additionally, Apple is expected to introduce updated models of AirPods and the Apple Watch. The new watches are anticipated to feature larger screens while being slimmed down, and midlevel AirPods might include noise cancellation, with updates also expected for the lower-end models.

Oppenheimer strategists believe that excitement over Apple Intelligence could accelerate hardware replacements and boost market share for the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. With around 1.5 billion iPhones in use, Apple aims to initiate a “golden upgrade cycle” despite a dip in iPhone sales last quarter. However, the company must deliver successfully at Monday’s event and continue to build on this momentum in the months to come.
