Nvidia has announced new partnerships with artificial intelligence firms Perplexity and Mistral AI as part of a wider effort to expand AI infrastructure and language model development across Europe. The announcement was made during an AI-focused event in Paris, where the U.S.-based chipmaker laid out its plan to support regional AI growth through a combination of hardware advancements and software tools.
Through its collaboration with Perplexity, an AI search firm, Nvidia will work alongside more than a dozen AI companies across Europe and the Middle East. The goal is to improve their technologies and help bring them to market by supporting local business adoption. A central focus of this effort is the development of advanced reasoning models—AI systems capable of more sophisticated decision-making—particularly in European languages where data resources are limited. Meanwhile, French startup Mistral AI is partnering with Nvidia to introduce Mistral Compute, a new service powered by 18,000 of Nvidia’s Grace Blackwell chips. The service will operate from a data center in Essonne, France, with plans to expand to other European regions. The initiative aims to boost local AI computing power and reduce reliance on foreign infrastructure. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang emphasized the urgency for Europe to build out its AI capabilities to remain competitive on the global stage. As part of this effort, Nvidia is also working with telecom and cloud providers and is making its AI accelerator chips more accessible to smaller-scale developers.
Kari Briski, Nvidia’s vice president of generative AI software, said the company is generating synthetic data in under-resourced European languages to support the development of more robust local models. “We’re doing extensive synthetic data generation and translating our reasoning datasets for training purposes,” she explained. This initiative includes partnerships with companies based in France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, and Sweden.
Perplexity will play a key role in deploying and making these AI models accessible for use in areas such as data analysis and content generation by local enterprises. Aravind Srinivas, CEO of Perplexity, noted that Germany is already the company’s second-largest revenue market, pointing to rising demand for AI services tailored to regional needs. Nvidia also announced that its AI Lepton platform—which links developers to key computing infrastructure—will now include AWS and Mistral as partners. In addition, the company is building a network of “AI factories” across more than 20 locations in Europe, several of which will be large-scale “gigafactories” equipped with over 100,000 AI chips.
In the UK, firms like Nebius Group and Nscale Global Holdings will be deploying thousands of Nvidia’s AI processors, while countries such as Italy and Armenia are preparing to upgrade their hardware infrastructure to support growing AI demands.
Although Europe is home to more than 1.5 million AI developers and nearly 10,000 startups involved in Nvidia’s Inception programme, the region continues to lag behind the United States in AI infrastructure investment. Nvidia plans to address this shortfall by tripling its AI hardware capacity in Europe next year and increasing the continent’s total computing power by a factor of ten.
