Apple’s revamped Siri, first showcased at WWDC 2024, was originally expected to launch alongside the new iPhones last September. However, the update missed that deadline, and the project has faced multiple delays since.
According to a new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple now plans to roll out the redesigned Siri in spring 2026. The update will include a significantly enhanced App Intents system, aiming to transform Siri into a true hands-free controller for the iPhone.
Gurman explains that with the new App Intents, users will be able to issue complex voice commands like finding, editing, and sending a specific photo. Siri will also gain the ability to interact with apps in more advanced ways—such as commenting on an Instagram post, scrolling through a shopping app, or adding items to a cart—all through voice alone.
The upgrade is designed to allow Siri to operate apps as if the user were controlling them manually, executing tasks with precision and navigating interfaces intelligently.
Perfecting this capability has become a top priority for Apple’s global data operations team. However, insiders report that engineers are grappling with challenges—particularly ensuring that Siri works reliably across a wide range of apps and can handle high-stakes tasks with the necessary accuracy.
There are concerns that Siri may not yet meet the standards required for sensitive use cases, especially in banking or health-related apps, where even minor errors could have serious consequences.
Because of these challenges, Apple reportedly won’t release the feature universally at launch. Instead, the company is currently testing the system with a select group of third-party apps, including Uber, AllTrails, Threads, Temu, Amazon, YouTube, Facebook, WhatsApp, several games, and of course, Apple’s own apps.
For particularly sensitive app categories, Apple is still evaluating what Siri will be allowed to do—and in some cases, may exclude functionality altogether to ensure user safety.
