In the last few years, Samsung’s S-tier Ultra smartphone has stood tall against all odds. Now, the South Korean giant is set to unveil the Galaxy S25 series on January 22, with all eyes on the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Given the success of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, the Galaxy S25 Ultra could become the most sought-after smartphone of 2025.
Although Samsung has yet to reveal the devices, the rumour mill has been busy circulating details about the upcoming Galaxy S25 Ultra. Here’s everything we know so far:
The same industrial design with slight tweaks that make a difference
Leaked renders from Android Headlines suggest that the Galaxy S25 Ultra will keep a design similar to its predecessor. While the overall design ethos remains largely unchanged, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to feature subtle yet impactful design tweaks. These include a more boxy shape, giving it a more industrial look, while still retaining the iconic camera array with four cameras and an LED flash unit. Compared to the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which already had a boxier design than the S23 Ultra, the Galaxy S25 Ultra will also sport a flat frame, similar to the one found on the Galaxy S24 or Galaxy S24+.
The Galaxy S25 Ultra is rumoured to feature a massive 6.9-inch flat display with a WQHD+ (3120 x 1440) resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. While the display specs are similar to its predecessor, the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s screen is expected to offer improved colour accuracy and increased brightness.
The S-Pen has been the standout feature of Samsung’s flagship smartphones for the past decade, and the Galaxy S25 Ultra will continue this tradition. However, according to a post by Ishan Agarwal on X, the S-Pen for the Galaxy S25 Ultra will not include Bluetooth connectivity, meaning features like gesture control and remote functionality will be absent.
Quad-camera setup with an upgraded ultra-wide lens
The quad-camera setup on the Galaxy S25 Ultra will closely resemble that of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, with one key upgrade. While the 200 MP primary camera, 10 MP 3x telephoto lens, and 50 MP 5x periscope zoom lens remain the same, the Galaxy S25 Ultra will feature an upgraded 50 MP ultra-wide-angle lens.
With this camera setup and a new image signal processor (ISP), the Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to offer an enhanced photography and videography experience.
Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, up to 1 TB storage
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is rumoured to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, a speed-binned flagship chip from Qualcomm. It will likely come with at least 12 GB of RAM and is expected to offer up to 1 TB of storage. However, don’t expect a microSD card slot. Depending on the region, the Galaxy S25 Ultra will support dual nano-SIM slots.
One UI 7 running on Android 15
Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy S25 Ultra will come with One UI 7 based on Android 15, featuring an enhanced UI and new Galaxy AI experiences. Rumours suggest that Samsung may also offer a complimentary annual subscription to Google One AI Premium, similar to the Pixel 9 Pro series. Like its predecessor, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to receive seven years of OS and security updates.
The same 5,000 mAh battery with 45W fast charging
Samsung appears to be playing it safe with the battery and fast charging. Like the Galaxy S23 Ultra and Galaxy S24 Ultra, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to feature a 5,000 mAh battery with 45W fast charging support, as well as wireless and reverse wireless charging.
Launch and expected price
Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S25 series, including the Galaxy S25 Ultra, on January 22, with sales likely starting a week afterward. The base variant of the Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to be priced between Rs 1,20,000 and Rs 1,30,000, with potential bank discounts available.
