vivo Y78 goes official: Dimensity 7020 SoC, 120Hz screen, and 50MP camera

In a stunning reveal last month, vivo unleashed the Y78+ with the Snapdragon 695 SoC. But just when we thought things couldn’t get any more dazzling, the company has now unleashed the regular model, this time powered by the Dimensity 7020 chip.

One of the most striking differences between the two models is the display. The Y78 boasts a 6.64″ FullHD+ 120Hz LCD, while the Y78+ has a 6.78″ FullHD+ 120Hz curved AMOLED display with a fingerprint reader nestled underneath for biometric authentication. Meanwhile, the vanilla model opts for a side-mounted solution instead.

Both smartphones pack a potent 5,000 mAh battery with 44W wired charging. However, the Y78 is actually thicker and heavier (190g vs. 177g) than its Plus counterpart. But the real kicker is the camera. While the Y78+ boasts a 50MP primary camera with OIS, the Y78’s 50MP unit doesn’t have it. Still, both smartphones have 2MP depth units, and an 8MP sensor for the selfie camera.

Running Android 13-based OriginOS 3 out of the box, the vivo Y78 is a force to be reckoned with. It features a USB-C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity instead of 5.1.

The Y78 comes in three colors and three memory configurations, namely 8GB/128GB, 8GB/256GB, and 12GB/256GB. These are priced at CNY1,399 ($200/€185/INR16,570), CNY1,699 ($245/€225/INR20,120), and CNY1,999 ($290/€265/INR23,675), respectively. The phone will be available for sale in China starting May 13 via Vivo’s official Chinese website. As for its availability in other markets, we’re still waiting for confirmation.
