Google has rolled out a significant usability enhancement for its Gemini AI chatbot, now enabling users to upload up to 10 images or files at once. Launched on Monday, this update represents a notable leap from the previous one-file-per-prompt restriction.
The new functionality is available across all platforms, including the Gemini web interface and the mobile apps for Android and iOS. It’s supported by the latest general-purpose Gemini models, boosting the assistant’s flexibility and ease of use. Josh Woodward, Vice President of Google Labs and Gemini, announced the change through a post on his official X account, where he invited users to share feedback and suggest improvements.
To use the feature, users can tap the plus icon next to the input field, opening access to their file library. From there, multiple files can be selected in one go—by long-pressing on mobile or using Shift + click on desktop. Additional taps on the plus icon allow more files to be added, up to the 10-file maximum.
If users try to upload more than 10 attachments, they’ll now see a message that reads, “Some of your files could not be uploaded because you can only upload 10 attachments at a time.” This multi-file upload capability enhances Gemini’s efficiency, particularly for questions requiring context from several documents. While similar tasks were previously possible through NotebookLM or by creating Gems, this built-in support makes the process smoother for quick or casual queries. The feature reflects Google’s ongoing efforts to refine the Gemini experience and broaden its utility.
This improvement opens up a wider range of use cases for Gemini users. For instance, students can now submit multiple class notes or readings in a single session to get a comprehensive summary or comparison. Professionals can upload presentations, spreadsheets, and reference documents together to generate reports, meeting agendas, or project insights with greater coherence.
For creative users, the update allows easier sharing of visual inspiration. Designers, marketers, and content creators can upload several images at once and receive feedback, copy suggestions, or design prompts tailored to the full batch of files. This streamlines workflows that previously required repetitive prompts or tool-switching.
The update is part of Google’s broader strategy to integrate AI more deeply into everyday productivity. By making Gemini more context-aware and interactive, the company is positioning its chatbot as a versatile tool not just for casual queries but for more complex, task-oriented use.
